What airport do I fly into?
PVR (Puerto Vallarta international airport) - This is about 25-30 minutes from the hotel.
What about transportation from the airport?
The drive from the airport to the resort is about 25 to 30 minutes, based on traffic. Cody and Robyn plan to cover the transportation costs. Depending on when your flight arrives and if there are others arriving at the same time, it may be a larger transportation mini van or simply an Uber that brings you to the resort.
What is the resort like?
Feel free to look up Costa Sur Puerto Vallarta – it is a highly rated all-inclusive on a private beach 10 minutes south of the famous Zona Romantica. It has 2 pools, 3 restaurants and multiple bars – all of the food and drinks are included. Water activities are also included like snorkeling and paddle boarding. The private beach is protected by a natural rock reef, so you can enjoy the ocean without worrying about sharks or other large sea life. There are multiple longer stretches of sandy beaches in very close proximity, as well as closeby Zona Romantica and the famous Malecon/Boardwalk.

Is Puerto Vallarta Mexico safe?
Of course it is — it’s a darling, charming, friendly, walkable, lush green beautiful place. But here’s also an answer from Google AI.
*
“Yes, staying in an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta is very safe. Puerto Vallarta is widely considered one of the safest tourist destinations in Mexico, and all-inclusive properties add an extra layer of security with gated entrances, private security staff, and controlled guest access.
*
Safety Considerations at Resorts
*
Gated Environment: All inclusive Resorts feature controlled access, keeping non-guests out and providing a secure perimeter.
*
Property Security: Valet and room safety boxes are standard; keeping your passport and extra cash locked up prevents minor property theft.
*
Resort Staff: Staff members are helpful, professional, and trained to assist guests with local needs or medical assistance if required.
*
Leaving the Resort Safely
*
Explore Freely: It is generally safe to leave your resort to explore the Puerto Vallarta Malecon or the Romantic Zone during the day and early evening.
*
Smart Transportation: Use official taxis or Uber rather than hailing unverified street cabs late at night.
*
General Awareness: Practice the same street smarts you would in any major city—avoid dark, empty alleys or unfamiliar neighborhoods late at night.”
How do I get around?
There are multiple longer stretches of sandy beaches in very close proximity, as well as closeby Zona Romantica and the famous Malecon/Boardwalk. Is there a big schedule of wedding events?
No, we firmly believe nobody has a great time on vacation when there is a massive itinerary. We are hoping you take your vacation time to relax and enjoy the phenomenal weather and beautiful peaceful resort, and also hope you take some time outside of the resort to experience some of the wonderful things Puerto Vallarta has to offer.
*
The only events that are planned are the wedding and reception in the evening of Saturday, December 4th.
*
There will be a short sunset ceremony followed by a sit-down 3 course dinner, and then a reception with DJ/lighting/dancing/party fun from 7-11.
Wedding gifts?
We both agree that your gift to us is your presence at our wedding and being part of this exciting occasion.
What kind of electrical outlets are used in Mexico?
Mexico uses the same standard electrical outlets we use in the US. No converter or special plug is necessary.
Can I use my cell phone in Mexico?
Most cell phone carriers include free service in Mexico, but make sure to check the rules out on yours. Cody and I both have Verizon and Mom has T-Mobile, and both automatically switch over to a free calling / texting / Internet plan when we land in Mexico. It should be noted that there are limits on how much data you can use, but the resort does have free Wi-Fi.
Should I bring US dollars or Mexican pesos?
US dollars are widely used in Mexico, so there’s no need to exchange for Mexican pesos. At the resort you won’t need much more than small tip money for your favorite bartenders, waiters, and housekeeping staff since it is an inclusive. —They absolutely appreciate a couple dollars for a round of drinks or a 5 for dinner, that’s for sure! Make sure to change your money out and bring 1’s and 5’s, as it is hard to break larger bills.
*
As far as outside of the resort for buying souvenirs, I would plan to bring a small amount of cash, and larger purchases can be made with a credit card of course.
Can I use debit / credit cards in Mexico?
US debit and credit cards are widely accepted in Mexico. You may need to let your banking institution know you plan to travel to Mexico if you’ve had experience with them declining in the past due to potential fraud alerts.
*
The hotel is all inclusive, so you only need a small amount of money for tips and souvenirs if you choose. There’s no need to change US dollars for Mexican pesos. Just make sure to bring small denominations (1’s and $5’s), as change is hard to get in Mexico, unless you are OK with getting pesos for change.
Do I need a Passport?
Yes, you need a passport. Luckily there’s plenty of time to get a new one or renew your existing one! And please remember for those who already have one to check the expiration date, as you can’t travel within 6 months of it expiring!
Is Puerto Vallarta a small town?
One of the reasons we chose Puerto Vallarta, other than the fact that it’s the first out of country place Cody and I ever visited together back in 2022 – is the clean, comfortable, walkable friendly vibe it provides, and also the close/easy proximity eliminating long travel days.
*
Here’s an answer from Google AI-
*
“Puerto Vallarta is considered a medium-sized city with a small-town feel. It has a population of over 290,000 people, making it a major urban center and the second-largest in the state of Jalisco, yet travel publications frequently rank it among the world's best "small cities" due to its walkable core.
*
Size and Vibe
*
Population: Over 290,000 residents live in the municipality, meaning it is a fully functioning mid-size city rather than a tiny village.
*
Walkability: The historic downtown and Romantic Zone (Zona Romántica) are compact, highly walkable, and easy to explore on foot.
*
Global Ranking: Condé Nast Traveler readers regularly vote it one of the top small cities in the world because of its intimate, welcoming atmosphere.”
*
Also note that Ubers are very popular here and the city has excellent cell phone service. Most cell phone providers from the US include Mexico plans for free. So no roaming or long-distance fees!
